Tyler McAllister started his career in door to door sales and today he is a co-founder of a revolutionary solar company called Fusion Power

Tyler McAllister is a keynote speaker and entrepreneur who’s bringing a lot of heat to the door to door sales industry, literally. With nearly two decades of experience in door to door sales, McAllister co-founded a barrier breaking solar company called Fusion Power. His journey has been filled with ups, downs, and self doubt, but most importantly – an innate drive to succeed. His expertise and passion have helped him to cultivate a vertically integrated company that’s not only transforming the way humans utilise energy, but also challenging the competitive nature of the sales industry and showing that there is space for everyone to succeed.

Since its founding in 2017, Fusion Power has helped thousands of people in Arizona save money by utilizing clean and renewable energy. It is a residential solar company that handles all aspects of the customer experience, including initial consultation, site inspection, permit and utility applications, and installation. Most other solar companies in the industry are sales oriented, and contract a different company for the installation. McAllister said that Fusion Power previously operated similarly, but pivoted to be more in charge of the narrative that customers are acquainted with. This revolutionary change has helped place Fusion Power as the #1 solar energy provider in Arizona. 

But instead of wanting to greedily take over the entire market, McAllister strives to help others create similar success and abundance. “We’re really in the mindset of helping everybody learn the business and share what we’ve done, from an install perspective and from a sales organization perspective,” he says. 

McAllister’s knack for helping those around him is a direct result of the same help he was given when he faced challenges earlier on in his career. 

McAllister worked his first sales gig 17 years ago, and performed exceptionally well from the get-go. His eagerness to succeed and ability to follow through, resulted in his recruitment by a company to help with its expansion into Arizona. “They asked me to come over and help build this team, but I went from being a really, really high producer to totally bombing. I was super embarrassed,” he says. “People had really high expectations of me, but I came in and just completely flopped.” McAllister mentioned that the company put him on a performance improvement plan, and it was a very eye opening experience for him. “I couldn’t believe that I was struggling to adapt to a completely different market,” he says.

Instead of letting his low sales impact his passion, McAllister allowed it to fuel his drive to succeed even harder. “It was really, really tough and I was having no success at all. But because of that I got really stubborn and refused to move on.” 

With the support of his team, McAllister was able to achieve his goals, and within six weeks, he became one of the top reps in the whole company. “It was really important for me to reach out to other people that believed in me, so they could remind myself of who I was,” he says. 

That experience helped McAllister to create the core principles that Fusion Power operates on today, which are to add immense value to both Fusion Power’s customers and its employees. “We want to make sure that people feel like they’re a part of what we are creating and help them understand the value that they bring to our company, and make sure that we’re constantly adding value back to them,” he says. “There is a power that comes from being a part of a community and having people that love and care for you.”

McAllister worked in sales and recruitment before moving to management and slowly climbing up the corporate ladder. Before he knew it, McAllister had an office on the top floor. 

On discussing his path to success, McAllister says, “I just got really used to taking risks and learning how to make customer acquisition. That was really the bottom line.” He continues; “I’m very good at building trust and understanding where that customer is currently at, what their fears are, and what their concerns might be. I’m good at being connected to that and I speak directly to it, versus a lot of guys might walk in with a pitch and they’re completely disconnected from the experience that the customer might be having.”

McAllister’s story is inspirational and depicts how never giving up, especially when you feel like you should, can truly set you up for success. He started off his career in door to door sales, and today he is the owner and co-founder of a successful solar company that’s changing the world. “I started as a door to door guy and here I am today. I took one step at a time and kept opening new doors, and now new doors are continuing to open for me.”
